Stop Reducing Ontario Accident Benefits
I’ve been very vocal in recent years about changes to accident benefits and safety in Ontario. There was a recent article I published called “Ontario Government Leaves Most Injured Forgotten” which talks about budget cuts in auto insurance coverage impacting the Catastrophically Impaired, which often includes paraplegics and quadriplegics. Further cuts to winter road maintenance…

Ontario’s government leaves most injured forgotten
I, Sandra Zisckind, have been very vocal about cuts in accident benefits over the past 5 years. Beginning in 2010, the Liberal government cut the no-fault medical coverage available by approximately 97% for car accident injury victims. The Ontario government has been turning its back on society’s most injured in favour of big business and…

Be careful: Ontarioโ€™s winter roads โ€˜less safeโ€™ since privatization
In an effort to reduce costs, the Ontario government privatized and contracted out winter road maintenance. However, a report by the Auditor General, Bonnie Lysyk, found that contracting out winter road maintenance led to longer clearing times and more dangerous roads. โ€œIn the past, highways were cleared much faster,โ€ the auditor told reporters Wednesday, noting…

Are You Paying Too Much for Auto Insurance?
According to an article published inย The Toronto Star, drivers in Ontario were overcharged to the tune of $3 billion for auto insurance over the past decade. That worked out to an average of $100 to $120 per family in 2013, a study for the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association shows. This comes after a highly profitable…

The City of London looks to reduce speed limits
I recently discussed a proposal by Queenโ€™s Park to lower speed limits in cities and towns.  The proposal is expected to improve safety in Ontario for pedestrians and drivers and reduce the number of car accidents and injuries. The province is considering reducing the speed limit on all residential streets from 50 to 40 km/hour. In…
