About Ronald D. Davis

Ronald D. Davis brings more than four decades of litigation experience to Diamond and Diamond Lawyers, where he serves as Senior Counsel with a focus on class actions. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1984, Ron has spent his career developing creative, strategic approaches to complex disputes, with matters reaching every level of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Ron's litigation background spans commercial disputes, privacy and data security, real estate litigation, and appellate advocacy, experience that translates directly to the demands of large-scale class proceedings, where strategy, written advocacy, and procedural depth shape outcomes for entire groups of claimants. He is acting in a landmark British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal constitutional dispute on the application of the province's Personal Information Protection Act to Canada's federal political parties.

Ron has been involved with technology and the law since the 1980s. He cofounded and ran a digital forensics company for several years. He has written and lectured extensively on blockchain technology, and the litigation consequences of cybersecurity and privacy breaches, among the fastest-growing areas of class action law in Canada.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa's Common Law en français program, where he earned his J.D. cum laude, Ron is multilingual and taught at the Law Society of Ontario's Bar Admission Course for a decade. He has edited and written more than 75 articles and books on subjects ranging from legal technology and mortgage litigation to business valuation. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society. He is a former member of The Sedona Conference Working Group 7 and the Toronto Computer Lawyers' Group.

Beyond the law, Ron holds a Ph.D. in French linguistics from the University of Toronto, where he served as an Assistant Professor, and is an acclaimed jazz pianist and recording artist with 13 albums to date, including a 2020 JUNO Award nomination for Instrumental Album of the Year. He is a past Secretary of The Glenn Gould Foundation and co-produced the annual Jazz for Herbie benefit for Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children for several years. He served on the Board of Directors of Opera 5 and the Avenue Road Music and Performance Academy, and was an Advisory Committee Member of the Jazz Performance and Education Centre.
