Front Line Support Workers

The unsung heroes are often the most overlooked. We were reminded of this during the tragedy of 9/11. After that harrowing time we were reminded of all the people in our world whose occupation is simply to help their fellow man.

After several weeks of horrific car crashes and devastating falls I realized something quite obvious. I am a third or fourth line responder. I help take care of the critically injured after the accident and often for years, but it is those people responding primarily that are required to act without delay, to be calm and collected in the face of chaos.

The car accidents this week provide good examples of how efficient our first line responders are. While road closures are extremely annoying, think that they do not close off roads for minor accidents. Victims of these horrific collisions are often airlifted to neighboring hospitals where the team on the ground fight to save a life or a limb.

Being on the scene of a horrific car accident takes a toll. My point? Simple do not take for granted the men and women that work around the clock to help us when we are at our lowest. This includes but is not limited too; fire, police, EMS, nurses and doctors. Do not scream, yell or curse when you are inconvenienced. Pull over to the side of the road to let them by. Your meeting can wait 5 minutes, their heroic efforts cannot. Let’s hope all of those people that were hurt on our highway in the past two weeks come out of this living to tell the tale. For the rest of us, stay safe and drive cautiously.
