Multitasking Marathon
Sun Media
As most women I find myself doing 20 things at once. I feel like I am running a marathon and then pass out at the end of the night. I have heard this from many women, including a cousin of mine who noticed how distracted she was by going over all her tasks in her head she realized she wasn’t watching the road.
I have long since preached that we should all slow down and pay attention to the road. Yet I find the biggest distraction seems to be the million racing thoughts in my brain. It is hard when you are worried about work, the kids, dinner etc. What has worked for me is compartmentalizing my time.
Like right now I will only concentrate on this article. It is almost an impossible task in and of itself as the phone is ringing and I am worried my son won’t eat the chicken I made him for dinner.
What’s the solution? Not sure. It is hard to say. I just remind myself of a few things:
- An extra few minutes on the road driving slow will not make or break my day;
- Letting someone ahead of me in the lane will not slow me down exponentially;
- Trying to make a light could lead to disastrous consequences to both me and the other driver;
- Saving an extra few minutes by speeding or taking chances is not worth anyone’s life.
Hope that helps.
