Traffic Fatalities
Fatalities are becoming more and more prevalent. My heart goes out to the family who lost their son this week. I also have a 4 year old son. There is nothing worse.
The Sun did a great job a couple weeks ago about the increase in fatalities in the City. I spoke last week about distracted driving and how that has contributed, but it feels like people are just not paying attention. We do not need any more senseless death.
So what to do, we need to go back to basics. Stop at stop signs, slow down on orange, check your mirrors and don’t speed. All seemingly easy and simple things but we forget. As our driving life continues and we are not continually checked we forget the rules of the road. We get lazy and careless and then tragedy ensues.
Brian Patterson of the Ontario Safety League supports the Police Chief Bill Blair’s proposal to form a pedestrian safety task force involving many stakeholders in the GTA. Perhaps laws need to be changed, perhaps we need to be re-tested but mainly education is the key. Respectfully I think no one is in a better position to provide that type of education and re-education the Ontario Safety League. Someone needs to step in quick and now before any further tragedy occurs.
