Distracted Driving – The Sequel
Sun Media
My associate just got this hand out from the Toronto Police that looks like a ticket but really it is a caution on distracted driving. Now I know I talk about this a lot but there are certain realities to this new high tech age we are living in. The hand out states that the: “Insurance Bureau of Canada estimates 8 out of 10 collisions are caused by distracted drivers”. I personally believe that number is higher when it comes to pedestrians.
The Police efforts are great but the problem is this is not the easiest thing to crack down on. They do give some tips like not looking at emails, let your calls go to voicemails and generally watch the road.
This is great advice. Why do we not listen! It is easy to look down momentarily and think I just have to text this one thing and I can still see the road. I can tell you, you can’t. In that moment you can forever change your life and that of the person you hit.
Brain injuries, fractures, chronic pain are just some of the most common injuries we see. Then there are the ones involving fatalities. We just lost one of our young clients who succumbed to his injuries. Trust me the one text, one email and one phone call can wait. Do not make a fatal decision that will alter your life forever. It is never worth it. Let’s stay safe.
